What, pray tell, is "life coaching?" In short, it is equipping people to navigate the questions, confusions, and possibilities of life so they can live as fully, optimally and in as much overall health as possible.
British team builder and trainer Alan Chapman explains, "The term coaching typically refers to methods of helping others to improve, develop, learn new skills, find personal success, achieve aims and to manage life change and personal challenges. Coaching commonly addresses attitudes, behaviours, and knowledge, as well as skills, and can also focus on physical and spiritual development too." (from http://www.businessballs.com/coaching.htm)
Executive coach, consultant and scholar, Dr. Terry Anderson concludes, "Coaching has now become an established profession that synthesizes the best aspects of business, leadership, psychology, communications, organization development, counselling, consulting, sports, philosophy, theology, health and finance." In today's individualistic, conflicted, fractured and increasingly rootless society many have no one to help them develop the attitudes, behaviours, knowledge and skills to navigate and succeed in personal life and relationships. That's where we come in.
Through our coaching we will help you understand your identity and purpose in life. Who are you? What are your values, personal style traits, aptitudes, gifts and abilities? What about your foundations? Your roots? Are they solid, secure, firm, deep and healthy? And considering all of the realities in life and relationships how can you continue to think and act most humanly?
We employ a 5 point bio-psycho-social-spiritual model as we help you confirm your path or learn where you might be stuck or lost. We explore symptoms and causes and help facilitate practical, holistic, preventative measures and solutions. We work with you on upgrading your personal and relational skills and help you develop a plan then take decisive actions to become the best person you can be...so you can enjoy and live out the great adventure that this life is!!
We provide proactive life coaching to help you prevent or get out of that place of feeling lost, disoriented, stuck, or troubled in your life, and relationships.
If you think we can help, please give us a call or send an email. We would be pleased to connect for a confidential consultation.
The work we do commonly combines "life" with "career and vocational" coaching. In fact, when optimizing life/work balance these become intimately linked.
That said, effective career and vocational coaching helps people explore what might be an optimal "fit" for them, what might be their "calling" as it relates to work and career.
How many young people really do not know what to do vocationally after high school? Or how many times have you heard someone say that they have been to college/university but the program they were in was just not a fit? And they dropped out? After spending a bunch of money to seemingly go nowhere? Maybe that's you?
Or maybe you've been working at a dead-end job or career that provides no interest of purpose for you anymore? Maybe you're trying to determine if a certain transfer or promotion is appropriate or timely? Maybe you've been injured and have to do something different?
If any of these things apply to you then we should meet. Why should you guess at next steps or just wander? Why should your present or future work be pointless or purposeless?
Through our coaching we will help you understand your vocational purpose. Who are you? What inspires and motivates you? What gives you meaning? Where can you serve most nobly?
What makes us unique as coaches is that besides our coaching certifications Denys has a vast interdisciplinary academic background with a particular focus on classical historical coaching approaches. You will not find this in many other places. But add to this the extensive life and vocational experience we both have and you will not be disappointed if you choose to work with us.
We will conduct formal assessments with you to help you clearly understand your personal style, aptitudes, gifts, values and more. We will get to know you well and help you clearly define your vocational purpose. We will explore how you can upgrade your vocational skills, help you develop a step-by-step plan, then take decisive actions to get where you want to go, in the context of who you are and what you value. We will help you become the brightest and best you can be...so you can do - and enjoy - what you love.

Are you seeking wholeness? Recovery from wounds, or trauma? Is your heart broken, aching or sad? Are you angry? Bitter about something that happened to you? Perhaps your life has just become a plain muddle? Or you feel interiorly confused or lost? Or you can't figure out why some relationship isn't working?
Dr. Indigo Triplett argues that Counselling tends to focus on analyzing the past whereas Coaching focuses on future development. Counselling tends toward issues of ill-health, disruption in clear thinking, relationship problems, pain and the like; whereas Coaching tends to look at skills development. This is not to say that the two services must always function exclusively one from the other. They may. Or - as our work suggests - the two may sometimes function collaboratively. (see: http://www.inc.com/indigo-triplett/coaching-versus-counselling-to-level-set-an-employee.html)
One of the services Denys offers is that of Spiritual Care and Counselling. To be clear, he is not a clinical psychologist or a psychiatrist. In his Counselling he draws on his pastoral care training and experience - but also on his interdisciplinary academic training and background - to help clients address root causes of ill-health, distorted thinking, life imbalance and bitter relationships. We acknowledge the need to consider the whole person - physically, psychologically and spiritually - to bring optimal integrity, wholeness, balance and health to life, relationships and vocation.
This is particularly potent for those who serve or have served in policing, other emergency-response type jobs or the military where trauma, grief, moral injury, betrayal, excessive rationalism, legalism, etc. dehumanize and damage - even destroy - these noble servants and their families. And, from personal experience we know that, as good as it may be, much of the health care offered by "the system" is just not enough.
It has become well documented that more is needed than IQ (intelligence quotient) and EQ (emotional quotient). SQ (spiritual quotient) must also be acknowledged and optimized. This goes to matters of the deep inner heart and soul, where contemporary humanistic and atheistic psychology and psychiatry are simply unable to go.
As with his Coaching Denys mines the sages of history that are all-too-often ignored today, to our peril. He seeks to apply the insights of both contemporary and historic spiritual care providers and counsellors in order to facilitate health in the minds, hearts, souls, bodies and relationships of his clients.
Could Neil Young have nailed it when he sang, "Keep me searchin' for a heart of gold"?
If this is something you would like to explore with Denys, why not take a minute and give him a call or send an email?
